Summer is upon us, and lots of people are choosing to holiday in the UK, having a ‘staycation’. This means more and more people will be planning a road trip to somewhere exciting, even days out or trips in the car to see family and friends. Either way, being in the car for a long time can become tedious, not only for passengers such as young children, but for the driver too.
Here are some tips to help you have the perfect road trip:
Clean your car before and during your trip
So many of us are guilty of having fast food wrappers, receipts, even dog hairs on our seats or around the car. However, to ensure a pleasant, non-smelly journey, or to stop dog hairs attaching themselves to your clothes, visitors or luggage, give your car a good clean before and during your trip.
Check your vehicle
Don’t leave it until the night before or even the day of your trip, check your car one week before your road trip. Check your brakes, tyres and fluid levels and anything else that may cause a potential problem. Make sure your spare wheel is fully inflated, a jack is available and you have jump leads, just in case.
Have a loose plan
Sometimes delays are inevitable when travelling by car. Whether you come across roadworks or a closed bridge, be sure to have a loose back up plan, just in case you need to make a diversion.
Anticipate trouble spots
As above, there may be roads or motorways which are known trouble spots. If you need to travel down these routes, try to pre-empt busy times and avoid rush hour traffic.
Pre-load your phone and entertainment
If you’ve got the facility to connect your phone to your car stereo, then pre-load your phone with all your favourite hits. That way if you get bored of the radio or lose radio signal, you can put on some of your favourite music, lifting the mood, pleasantly breaking up the journey.
Ensure you can be rescued / recovered
Be prepared for what to do in the event of an unpredicted breakdown. Here at Macadams we offer a 24-hour breakdown service.
