As drivers we all carry certain responsibilities. We must adhere to road rules and put the safety of ourselves and others first. This includes making sure our vehicles are in a roadworthy condition.
Most drivers use their cars on a daily basis but can often be guilty of putting the vehicle servicing on the back burner. However, having your vehicle regularly serviced in reputable garages/auto repair shops could make the difference between a minor repair task and a serious costly fault.
It’s often frustrating to encounter any problems when it comes to taking your vehicle in for a service, however many larger and more expensive problems can often be avoided by having regular vehicle checks.
Problems such as the below can often be faced when a service is avoided:
- Tread on tyres – can often become worn down and need replacing to avoid blowouts and flat tyres.
- Brake fluid/brake pads – both of these elements of your vehicle can become worn and may need replacing/refilling after a certain amount of time to ensure they are still working efficiently and safely.
- Oil – this can often need topping up as it is an essential element to keep your car running; at the garage on the day of your service, they will do this for you.
- Operation of all lights, wipers, airbags etc – all of these elements are crucial to keeping you safe on the roads and can sometimes need maintenance to keep them fully functional.
All cars should be serviced as recommended by the manufacturer. This varies from car to car and is generally dependant on mileage and/or time passed.
You should have received documentation when your dealer handed over your new vehicle.
Up to 50 or more vehicle components, system checks and adjustments should be expected to be carried out in a full service, making it well worth the money.
With this being said it is also important to seek assistance from a professional mechanic whom is well reputable and is authorised to diagnose and treat any repairs on your vehicle.
Ensuring you maintain your vehicle from both the exterior and the interior will not only ensure that you are safe but that other drivers are also safe on the roads.
It will also help when you consider trading in/selling your vehicle to another driver/ car dealership as well looked after cars are well sought after and have a better chance on the market than those that haven’t been maintained.
